I agree 100%. "I'll be your mom now" feels so disingenous and self-congratulatory, and at times is borderline creepy. Most of the time people just mean it as a warm, lighthearted comment, but a stranger saying "I'll be your mom now!" is so far from the reality of such a relationship that it feels sad and hollow. And when someone says that and means it a tiny bit more sincerely, it feels a bit like love bombing; it's strange to commit to that level of a relationship when you barely know the person. Except in very rare extreme circumstances, like the accepting parent of a queer teen taking one of their kids' friends under their wing and welcoming them to Christmas and things like that.
