I believe it is always worthwhile to step back from judgement and ask, “Why is this person behaving this way?”. Always. If we want to learn how to prevent damaging behaviors, we must see the external factors that lead to it. You do not need to love the person who has done awful things, but it is not helpful to merely hate that person and cease your analysis there.
