I still really enjoy some of his writing. And it meant a lot to me many years ago. I’m never especially moved by the “I never liked this person’s stuff anyway” response to when an abuser is revealed — I’m glad, I suppose, that some people seem to be able to intuit that someone is a bad person through their work, but most of us do not have perfect detection systems for that kind of thing. And I think it’s more important, generally, for people to get comfortable with the idea that work we do like may be associated with someone abusive. That is a fact all of us are going to have to get comfortable with, if we are going to be able to respect and listen to victims. Unless a person has flawless abuser-detection-intuition, that experience will come to them eventually.
