I think it’s the case that our first memory of money is often (but not always), consistent with the way we were taught to think about money in general. All my early memories of money were about saving it, worrying about it, and not talking clearly about it — which is certainly consistent with the overall way my parents handled money in general.
I already have a ton of income streams, side hustles, investments, etc — I touch on this a bit in the piece, but not a ton. For me, that drive to do as much as possible to earn money is a symptom of my financial anxiety, not a solution. But I’m also perversely grateful for that anxiety. It has helped keep me safe.
