I’m really glad you found this piece relateable in some ways! It sounds like your self-assessment and self-understanding is spot on. I hope that you continue to seek out and surround yourself with the writing and experiences of ace and aro people and find solace and confidence from it. I’m not sure what the answer is, regarding coming out; people still look at ace and aro identities with so much stigma and doubt, and it can be painful to face all that. But, I do believe that those who can come out, and who find speaking their truth potentially gratifying should go for it. It makes the world a better place and it lets you feel more comfortably and openly yourself. You don’t have an obligation to share it. You don’t owe anyone that truth if you think they will be cruel or mocking in the face of it. But I think if you feel like it’s the right thing to do, and that doing so will bring you some peace and leave you feeling like you have stopped tamping down this essential and beautiful and good part of yourself, then it’s a good move to pursue.
