Thank you for this response!
Thank you for this response! It’s always really comforting and healing for me to read messages from supportive, curious, empathic parents of Autistic kids. So many parents are positioned to see their kids’ functioning as a frustration or a problem to fix — and it’s not their fault they take that approach, the culture encourages them to see it that way. So thank you, thank you, for listening to Autistic voices and working with your kid to help make his life happy and healthy on his terms, and in his way. I’m only now, as someone in their late 20’s, learning how to communicate my sensory, emotional, and social needs, and learning to accept those needs as acceptable and worthy, so it’s great that the two of you are already putting effort into that, even if it can be frustrating at times and hard to figure out.
