Thank you for your comment Vivian! I always love hearing from you. I think the question isn't really about who has a responsibility to do X Y or Z -- my belief system is very firmly that systemic problems require systemic solutions, and that we lose track of our ultimate goals when we try to put individual responsibility on individual people.
At the same time, nothing will change if we don't work to change it. So I think the real question, from where I am sitting, is who has the energy and motivation to educate, and how can they do so in an effective way.
So for me, I have very little patience for having these conversations in person, at least not with people on a trans 101 level. I'm just not well wired for it, and when I do try to have these convos (outside of a teaching setting), I'm not very effective either. So when I do educate, it's mostly through my writing or making digital learning tools.
My cisgender sister on the other hand has the energy and mental distance to educate other cis people around here, and she does so -- because she feels called to do so. I don't like imposing responsibility on anybody else, I want to empower people to determine what they feel "called" to do from within. If that makes sense.
