Thanks Grahame! I agree that it’s not a conspiracy. It evolved based on market forces and competitive academic structures, and because there wasn’t a group of academics making big-enough “big picture” decisions in shaping this stuff as it was forming. We weren’t intentional enough about it, and we still aren’t. I hope that we can work to make the process more systematic and objective.
