Virtue signalling is such a nonsense concept. All humans do things for social reasons, including things that are presented as being benevolent or altruistic. We never act in a vacuum, we are forever mindful as social animals of how our words and actions will be received. To say I wrote something to virtue signal is to say I did something with a social perception intent behind it, which is kind of the point of what writing for a public platform is. Of course I had the reactions of readers in mind when I wrote this. It's not particularly insightful to recognize that.
