Yeah, the usage is a bit complex in these examples I think — many of these people do use “Asperger’s” to describe their neurotype, sometimes interchangeably with Autism. I think it’s partly an artifact of when they got diagnosed/realized they were Autistic — people who found out in the 80’s/90’s tend to use Asperger’s, as that term was really having a boom then. Of course, part of the use of “Asperger’s” by many of them also points to the bias that Asperger’s = more “high functioning”, which we now know isn’t the case. Hopefully now that Asperger’s has been folded into ASD, people will get more comfortable identifying as Autistic and not distancing themselves from other neuroatypical people.
