Yes — whether a person is appropriately stimulated/challenged by a task, and whether they see value in it, are also big factors! And often what appears on the outside to be “laziness” or apathy is a person who is not being stimulated or who is being asked to do something that they have not been shown the value of. And, as if often the case in general ed requirements, it may be the case there truly is not recognizable value to a student for taking a course — it’s damn hard to stay motivated in the face of having your time disrespected like that.
