as a person that practices a lot of perspective-taking but doesnt feel much empathy most of the time (while being neurotypical as far as i know) this was very enlightening to read and put words to a discomfort and shame surrounding the topic of empathy that i‘ve had for as long as i‘ve been a politicized person. thank you!
Good post - empathy is not feeling the other person's emotions. Some people are still spreading this idea, and some of them are very famous and emotionally intelligent.
Empathy is connection. What we feel happens inside ourselves, and if that makes them connect with us (because we've proactively communicated in such as way as to do so) then we reflect what they feel or may be feeling. In a sense that is closer to compassion than sympathy.
Thank you Dr. Devon Price, I've felt this way a very long time and the best I could describe what I was doing was "cognitive empathy". It's nice to have the full weight of it spelled out like this.
Checked a few more posts and found a pattern—it seems to only be impacting articles that were migrated from Medium. All other posts have the text to speech audio available.
Hmm...I’m not finding anything helpful either and their new custom audio feature announcements are sort of clogging up any of the audio related search terms. Looks like the default, autogenerated audio is their text-to-speech feature. Should be enabled for all newer posts, but might be missing from older posts. It is available for most of your content. Thanks for looking into it.
Thanks for looking into it more, too! I think it may be that posts that are queued to be emailed to subscribers get the voice-to-text capability, but those that aren't don't. I'm not sure how to address this, as I want to backlog as much of my Medium content as possible without spamming people's inboxes...

If possible, could you enable the audio feature for this post?
Do you know how to do that? I'm googling around and all I can find is that everything should be playable in the app.

Sure, sorry just figuring out how Substack works still -- I thought I had audio turned on.
